Lesson 1.1: What is SEO and Why It Matters
What is SEO?
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the process of improving your website so that it ranks higher in search engine results (like Google or Bing). The better your SEO, the more likely your site appears when someone searches for something related to your content.
Why it matters:
- 75% of users never scroll past the first page of search results.
- Higher rankings = more visibility, traffic, and potential revenue.
- SEO is organic — no need to pay for ads.
What SEO includes:
- Keyword research
- Content optimization
- Meta tags (titles/descriptions)
- Mobile-friendliness
- Site speed
- Link building
Example:
If someone types “how to bake banana bread” and your blog post appears on Page 1 — that’s SEO in action.
